I must say, I rather like the idea that Labour's rather distasteful attempt to hijack an issue of considerable concern to local people for their own gain, should backfire on them by sparking the idea of the people holding their own rally; a rally which I'm sure would be far better attended.
It's Labour's political shenanigans that have put our own hospital at risk. Poetic justice I would call it.

So are we going to organise this then?
I think it is a brilliant next step. |

I've seen at least one letter in the paper from Elwick quite definitely opposed to closing Hartlepool Hospital. I was very impressed with it because Elwick is on the A19, they all have cars and the short drive to Wynyard would suit them fine.
Obviously, the lady who wrote the letter to the Mail hasn't forgotten that thinking of others is just as, if not more important than thinking of yourself. |

I hadn't meant my previous post to appear defeatist, just trying to indicate the lengths these goons will go to to scupper the opposition, to ensure their dreams of the Valhalla in Wynyard are fulfilled. I most certainly will be at any rally that is organised on behalf of the right thinking 30,000 plus residents of Hartlepool. |

| Thinking about it, 30,000 must be about 50% of the voting public and I'm sure if there had been more time they would have got even more. To put it in context, in 2009, 5,268 peole put Stuart Drummond down as their first choice and 1,599 as their second choice. |

If it is intended to hold a rally on council (our) land then permission needs to be sought from the Estates division, a letter with the plan(s)should be sent to Dale Clarke the Estates manager, i do believe that Public Liability insurance would be needed.

"Our" as in the residents of the town.

Newark Hospital on TV. They are saying that local people are being listened to with regards to local health services. However does not look like it as they are threatening to close A&E.
Anyone got more info on this to compare/contrast with Hartlepool?

Mike, please look for my previous posting which has a link giving info for protest organisers.
Think of it like this... You do not need permission to meet a group of friends in Victory Square, nor do you need public liability insurance. In essence we would asking other members of the public, who are also perfectly entitled to stand in Victory Square to do so.

er...how many friends is it reasonable to have? If the Police are going to judge it by their own standard then its probably not that many

| I can see where SRMoore is coming from. If we all bring a couple of friends and just meet at the same place? Got to admit, we also got to consider our wonderful weather. Think it is good to have a plan B, just in case it rains! |

I thought this was supposed to be a rally to reinstate the services back to the University Hospital of Hartlepool, what you are proposing sounds a little furtive, simply asking people to turn up, how are you going to get the message out. The council have already set a precedent by allowing the Labour group and Unison to hold their rally on the grassed area of Victory Square and provide the barriers, Public Liability Insurance for one day should be around £50.00 which is not a bank breaker, i am quite sure people would be prepared to donate a pound or two to get this event on the move and i am quite sure the Mail would run a story on it the same way they did for the other one. I also believe the Save Our Hospital crowd would be only too happy to be involved.
